alan parent, m.d., f.a.c.s
Dr. Alan Parent is an expert in the advanced surgical treatment of cataracts. He was the first eye surgeon in southeastern Michigan to perform laser cataract surgery with the LenSx® laser. Dr. Parent specializes in advanced cataract removal with premium intraocular lenses. He also has extensive experience in LASIK and treating patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.
Born and raised in metropolitan Detroit, Dr. Parent received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and graduated with honors from Wayne State University School of Medicine with his Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Parent then completed a surgical internship and ophthalmology residency at Rush University in Chicago. He joined Cataract and Eye Consultants of Michigan in 2001. Dr. Parent enjoys spending time with his kids, golfing, skiing, and attending football games at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Parent is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and serves on committees for the Michigan State Medical Society and Macomb County Medical Society.
In addition to his work at Cataract and Eye Consultants of Michigan, Dr. Alan Parent is a member of the faculty at the nationally renowned Kresge Eye Institute where he serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and is the former Director of Surgical Education for the Ophthalmology residency program.
